COACH ABDUL JORDAN

Coach Abdul is currently a USPTA Elite Tennis Professional teaching tennis and kids sport training throughout Montgomery County, Maryland (specifically Gaithersburg, Bethesda and Potomac)...

  • ABOUT COACH ABDUL

Coach Abdul's passion for teaching tennis has no boundaries. Whether it be giving 4-year-old twins their first ever tennis lesson, improving a 12 year-old’s serve before her first L4 tournament, assisting his Alma Mater North Carolina A&T State University to success as the Assistant Tennis Coach, or teaching a Wounded Warrior Army Veteran and his family the fundamentals of the sport. Coach Abdul sees no limit in developing knowledge and skill of the great game of tennis. These and countless other sports and tennis experiences over the past 20+ years have taken place in schools, parks, tennis clubs, day cares, community centers, college campuses, sports organizations, and country clubs. Together, they have shaped Coach Abdul’s approach to teaching tennis and sports training, and have helped create great athletic connections throughout Montgomery County and surrounding areas. Most recently, Coach Abdul has joined Damiisa Robinson and staff at the Southeast Tennis & Learning Center in Southeast DC...

He is also the proud father of David (15) and Bryan (11) Jordan...

  • RACQUET RE-STRINGING

RESTRINGING FAQ Q: How often should I restring my racquet? A: The common rule of thumb is to restring as often per year as you play per week, but at least twice per year--once before the indoor season, and once before the outdoor season is also a good idea. Some types of string lose tension faster than others, heavy spin hitters wear strings out much faster than flat hitters, and some players seem quite happy to let the strings decide when to be replaced -- by breaking... Q: What gauge of tennis string is best? A: Thinner gauges offer more playability (often equated with "feel"). Thicker strings offer more durability. Most serious players who don't like to restring too often use 16 or 15 gauge. 17 and 18 gauge are for those who can afford string luxury or those who don't break strings. Each gauge has a light (L) variation that's a little thinner... Q: What's the best string tension to protect my arm? A: Lower string tensions (generally 40 to 55 lbs) prolong the contact between ball and strings, spreading the impact shock over a longer period of time and thus reducing stress on your arm. Higher string tensions (generally 60 lbs or higher) tends to give way to a more firm or stiff feel which can be tougher on the arm and elbow.

LESSONS

Individual or Group

Email Coach Abdul at abduljordan@jordanathletics.com or call (240) 644-5864 for more information on PRIVATE LESSONS and/or PRIVATE GROUP LESSONS...

Private Lessons could be regularly scheduled sessions for you or your kids (ex. Mondays 10AM for 3 weeks November 14, 21 and 28) OR could be a one time lesson for an in-law that is in town for the weekend.

Lessons can be taught in Bethesda/Potomac (Maryland) Cabin John Middle School, Norwood Park or at Christopher Court in Montgomery Village/Gaithersburg (Maryland) or even at your home court. The hourly rate is based on the number of players per class and location.

Private Group Lessons are with a regularly scheduled group of 2 or more players. Coach Abdul has experience teaching groups with different skill levels, ages and varying tennis experience. Some group lessons involve multiple courts or a team environment where all players in the group may be focusing on a certain skill, (i.e. return of serve) --- while other group lessons can be match specific and involve match play and analysis.

Most of the Private Groups that contact Coach Abdul are groups of kids (siblings, classmates and friends), Adults and Juniors of all levels and USTA League Teams. The hourly rate is based on the number of players per class and location...
